David HOLMES Ph.D. Professor, Universidad de Santiago de Chile (www.usach.cl)

Professor David Holmes did his undergraduate work in Genetics in Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland and obtained in Ph.D in Molecular Biology from the California Institute of Technology. He was a Damon Runyon Fellow in the Chemistry Dept. at Caltech and then held various academic positions in universities in the USA. He spent a few years working in the Research Laboratories of General Electric. His research interests focus on bioinformatics and genome biology especially related to microorganisms but also with projects concerning the genomics of higher organisms including Human. In 1993 he was awarded a Scientific Citation Classic as one of the most referenced Biologists in the world.
He has served on several national and international committees and review boards including the National Science Foundation and the WCPF Foundation. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the J. of Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology.
