Education and Training

Higher education and training is one of the priorities of our Institute. During the year 2002 in addition to our participation in the Ph.D. Programs in Biological Sciences and Medical Sciences at the Pontificia Universidad Católica members of the MIFAB initiated new Ph.D. Programs in Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences at the Universidad Andrés Bello. As a whole our Institute has increased the number of graduate students to a total of 50. In addition we have 56 students doing research at the Institute in order to complete their requirements for Master, professional and undergraduate degrees in several areas of biological sciences. These include Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Marine Biology, Aquaculture Engineering and Biotechnology Engineering. Our students come from programs of the main universities of the country including: Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad Andrés Bello, Universidad de Chile, Universidad de Santiago, Universidad de Concepción and Universidad Austral. Besides the regular advanced courses of our doctoral programs, during 2002 students from our Institute as well as from other Programs participated in several of the Courses and Simposia organized by our members. Which follows is a list of these activities carried out during the las period.
